If you know, you know. If you know my dad, you know. If you don't know my dad. I'll do my best to capture his light, infectious, and magnetic soul here. It won't do him justice but I'll try.
My dad was born on Halloween, basically all you need to know about him LOL! Halloween is my favorite holiday and has been my favorite since I was little. Call it a candy overload, the crisp air, football season, the darkness, the moon, his birthday celebration or playing dress up to trick or treat. Whatever you want to call it, it's my favorite holiday. Some of my best childhood memories have taken place on that day.
Standing at 6'3 (and some change) and weighing in at 300(ish 😉) lbs is my daddio. He has a full head of wavy brown hair, green eyes, and a killer smile. He has aged well and for that, I'm jealous. My dad doesn't know a stranger. I mean that. He treats everyone he sees with love and shares his infectious love for life with them. He loves to see people smile so he's always telling some corny joke.
We'll talk about the jokes later because I used to find them cringe.
I miss those jokes now...
He has a love for music, dancing, people, astronomy, depth, life, humor, and football. He loves the broken and bruised. He spent a lot of his adult life giving back to others. Mission trips Vietnam to install water filters, work through the church, leading celebrate recovery, and much more.
He's a giver. A giver of hugs and smiles. His presence is physically large but his personality is what commands a room. He loves astronomy ( I definitely got that from him) He radiates such a bright light. If I had to describe his personality in colors, I'd pick a pinkish-orangish- yellow. He's bright. He loves. He shines. My daddy is just that, the sun and the moon all wrapped up into one. He is an addict (sober 20+ years now), he's a teddy bear, he's a protector, a fighter, a lover, a comedian, a writer, an athlete, a listener, a minister, a missionary, a musician, a plumber, a husband, a brother, an uncle, a papa, and my dad.
Cowboy Dave was his stage name. That's right, you read that correctly. He use to work at La Bare in Dallas, TX. Hence the title of this blog 😂Our family does a ton of sharing. I love that about us and at the same time 🥴. We are nowhere near "perfect". In fact, we're all very broken. We are broken together though.
If you have had the pleasure of meeting my dad, none of this is news to you. If you didn't know him, the above doesn't even begin to cover him and honestly probably doesn't do him justice.
Hey, I tried.
He's a different Cowboy Dave now. While I'm trying to cherish the moments I have with him now, I am still grieving the man I've known my entire life.
I miss him. I miss that fire in his eyes, and I miss his light.

Oh the Cowboy Dave stories I think are the ones that he used to breakdown a wall I had up in a bible study I did with him. He was the only one I had met that cared to even try to understand me and to this day I think he’s truly the only one that did! ❤️🙏🏻I’m heartbroken for you and your family because this man is incredible and I’m forever grateful and changed for the better because of his kindness and love.
